So you have planned your Michigan move and the day is approaching soon. If you didn’t hire a moving company to pack up belongings as well as move them, here are some tips on packing fragile items or glass.
- Always wrap fragile items or glassware– Whether you wrap your glassware or fragile items in bubble wrap or simply wrap them up in newspaper, you will definitely want to wrap it all. When you wrap your fragile items, the newspaper or other wrapping will absorb some of the shock during transit. Many people will use newspaper, towels, t shirts, or bubble wrap to wrap their glass or other fragile items.
- Place tape over mirrors or glass– If your move includes moving a mirror or glass doors to cabinetry you will want to place two strips of painters tape in the shape of an X over the glass surface. This will absorb the shock to the mirror while moving from point A to point B.
- Mark FRAGILE on all boxes– Before the movers make it to your home if they are not the ones packing up, be sure to mark FRAGILE on all boxes containing glass or other delicate items. We recommend doing so with a thick red marker to ensure that the note stands out the the movers.
Ensuring that you properly pack your fragile items will help reduce the risk of damaged belongings. There is nothing worse than arriving at your new residence only to see that you forgot to properly mark or wrap items and they end up broken.
